If you don't know what "My True Love Gave to Me" is, it's a book of twelve short stories written by twelve different acclaimed authors (such as Rainbow Rowell, Jenny Han, David Levithan, etc), the stories all focused around one main premise; Christmas.
Which is why, myself and many others have been reading it throughout December to get ourselves in the Christmas-y mood.
Now, I was debating on how I could do a blog post on this since I was on about the fifth story and knew I needed to make some kind of post regarding this wonderful book. After finishing the twelfth and final story this morning I decided to choose my top three favorite short stories from the book, and only provide three adjectives to describe that particular story. Now, I am going to do them as a countdown, starting at the third and leading up to my favorite(: Ready?
Here we go:
3. "The Lady and the Fox" by Kelly Link
Mysterious, Whimsical, Imaginative
2. "It's A Yuletide Miracle, Charlie Brown" by Stephanie Perkins
Fun, Sweet, Addictive
1. "The Girl Who Woke the Dreamer" by Laini Taylor
Magical, Enchanting, Fresh
I love how in this book the author's were given one theme to stick by and yet each and every story was so totally different from the next. It made me keep on wanting to read story after story after story and yet I had to limit myself so I wouldn't finish before Christmas.
A piece of advice for those who plan to read this book - don't rush through it. There are so many meanings hidden by every intricate sentence, so if you rush to finish so that you can go to sleep, or get to the next story, or watch your show on Netflix, you'll miss those meanings. Savor this book, don't scarf it down like a morning's breakfast.
Comment your top three favorite's from this book, I would love to know which you enjoyed most!
Thanks for reading (:
